From Principal's Desk

Sir P. T. Sarvajanik College of Science is the oldest Science College of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University and the largest college affiliated to the university so far as the number of students and branches offered are concerned. It is such an old college with its glorious past and bright present that its contribution to the academic field has always been counted invaluable right from its inception i.e. since 1935. It is indeed a great moment of joy and pleasure that we have got an opportunity to be assessed and accredited by the objective and impartial team of NAAC. We are looking forward to this great occasion when the dignitaries of NAAC team will come and witness not only our progress but also show us our weaknesses which any institution, no matter how efficient it is, does have.

It is always the prime motive of our college to help our students to acquire the knowledge of core science subjects, i.e., Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology. Students are given thorough knowledge of theory and practical at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Besides this, they are inspired to do research work at Doctoral and Post-doctoral levels too. Research has always been encouraged in our institution and it is possible because we are having highly qualified, hard-working, dedicated and             progressive teachers in our institute. I am very much proud to say that the teachers of our college are an asset to us. They have been actively involved in almost all the academic fields of the university such as syllabus - design, paper-setting, evaluation etc. The contribution of our teachers has always been appreciated. Ours is the only college which has been awarded recently the grant of Rs.14 lacks under FIST programme by DST. Because of the tireless efforts of our teachers, our students, year by year, are able to rank themselves high in university results too. Our teachers not only teach science subjects but rather inculcate in student’s mind the scientific attitude, temperament and ethos which enable him to attain both, bright career as well as good character.

The huge
and classical building, big and airy classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, wide playground, big auditorium, rich library and lush green     campus - are the beautiful feathers of our college. I do not exaggerate when

I view my college
as one of the best institutions of the university. But I also admit humbly that we still cannot do the best of ourselves as we are bound by many limitations. Being the head of the institute I do not overlook them. At this stage, I do know that the assessment of NAAC team will enlighten us and bring forth some useful suggestions. It will help us to walk on those new paths which still we have not traversed.

Lastly,
I admit that the recent historic flood-fury of river ‘Tapi’ has ravaged our college and delayed the submission of the SSR, yet it has neither damaged our enthusiasm nor dampened our spirit. We have again stood up like a phoenix bird, and we eagerly await the team of NAAC in our beautiful campus.
